As the year 1990 draws to a close, a seismic development several years in the making shakes the World: the Crimzon Workers' Union, the red colossus holding much of the West captive under the guise of proletarian revolution, is dead.

The World at large, previously marred by several decades of on-and-off tensions, proxy wars, and nuclear fears emanating from the fierce ideological struggle between the socialist West and the capitalist East, collectively sighs in relief as this Cold War concludes not with a bang, but with a whimper. The United Republics of Redtailia, chief among the Eastern powers, celebrates her victory as she prepares to assume her due station as the undisputed master of the global order, setting her sights on spreading liberal democracy as far as she now can.
